When do I change light cycles

If you’re growing cannabis indoors, you’ll want to switch the light cycle from the vegetative stage to the flowering stage when your plants have reached the desired size and are mature enough to start producing flowers. Typically, this occurs after about four to six weeks of vegetative growth, depending on the strain.

To switch from the vegetative stage to the flowering stage, you’ll need to adjust the light cycle to a 12-hour light/12-hour dark cycle. This signals the plant to start producing flowers.

It’s important to note that different strains of cannabis may have different requirements for light cycles, so it’s always a good idea to research the specific strain you’re growing to determine the optimal light cycle for that strain.

Additionally, outdoor cannabis plants will naturally start to flower when the days start to get shorter in the fall, so you don’t need to adjust the light cycle for outdoor plants.

VaMMJ and Gun Ownership

If you have a medical marijuana license, you may still be able to own a firearm, but it is important to be aware of the federal law regarding firearms and marijuana use. Under federal law, it is illegal for any person who is an “unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance” to possess firearms or ammunition. Marijuana is still classified as a controlled substance under federal law, even for medical use.

As a result, it is illegal for individuals with a medical marijuana license to purchase firearms from a licensed firearms dealer, as the dealer is required to run a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which will show the individual’s status as a medical marijuana user.

It is also illegal for an individual with a medical marijuana license to possess firearms that were acquired before obtaining the license, as this would be considered possession of firearms by an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

It is important to note that some states have laws that protect gun ownership for medical marijuana patients, but these laws may not be in line with federal law.

In summary, if you have a medical marijuana license, it is recommended that you consult with a legal professional to determine your rights and responsibilities regarding firearm ownership.

However an Oklahoma a Federal judge ruled that..

“Wyrick said that while the government can protect the public from dangerous people possessing guns, it could not argue Jared Harrison’s “mere status as a user of marijuana justifies stripping him of his fundamental right to possess a firearm.”

He said using marijuana was “not in and of itself a violent, forceful, or threatening act,” and noted that Oklahoma is one of a number of states where the drug, still illegal under federal law, can be legally bought for medical uses.

“The mere use of marijuana carries none of the characteristics that the Nation’s history and tradition of firearms regulation supports,” Wyrick wrote.

2021 Legislative Changes

The 2021 General Assembly session resulted in several changes to the pharmaceutical processor program.  Of most interest to patients registered for medical cannabis products are changes made as a result of HB1988 and SB 1333.  You may find information on both of these bills here: https://virginiageneralassembly.gov/.

Botanical Cannabis

Botanical cannabis will become available for dispensing from a pharmaceutical processor dispensary or a cannabis dispensing facility to a patient that maintains a valid written certification for the use of medical cannabis and registration with the Board of Pharmacy (BOP). Regulations are currently being developed to support this allowance and are expected to be implemented by September, 2021.  Botanical cannabis may be dispensed once the regulations are in place and products are available. No more than four ounces of botanical cannabis shall be dispensed for each 30-day period. Any dispensed botanical cannabis is calculated into the total 90-day supply of medical cannabis products that may be obtained. You do not need a new or different registration card to obtain botanical cannabis.

Written Certifications

As a reminder, written certifications are valid for no more than 12 months from the date of issuance. If your written certification has, or is about to expire, contact a registered practitioner for information on how to obtain a new written certification. Failing to maintain a valid written certification is non-compliant with board regulation and will jeopardize your ability to obtain medical cannabis products from a dispensary. The renewed written certification does not need to be submitted to the Board but must be presented to the pharmaceutical processor when obtaining medical cannabis products.

Pharmaceutical Processors

Currently, there are 4 permitted pharmaceutical processors. All four processor dispensaries are open for dispensing medical cannabis products to registered patients. These pharmaceutical processors are: Dharma Pharmaceuticals, LLC, Abingdon; Columbia Care Eastern Virginia, LLC, Portsmouth, Dalitso, LLC, Manassas and Green Leaf Medical of Virginia, Inc., Richmond.
